DMA is the oldest professional association of Modern Medical professionals in India ever since its inception in 1914 by the Indian Doctors under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Rai Sahib Attar Chand , First Civil Surgeon General of India, Dr. M. A. Ansari, Dr. S.P Shroff, Dr. Abdul Rehaman etc who had also actively participated in the struggle for Independence of the country. The association was constituted during the FIRST WORLD WAR to help the masses & soldiers.The interesting fact is that it is older than the National body which is Indian Medical Association (IMA).
The DMA has been constantly striving towards fulfilling its objectives of Promotion and Advancement of Medical and Allied Sciences in all their different branches, the improvement of Public Health and Medical Education and the maintenance of honour and dignity of medical profession
Out of the total number of 28 medical practitioners at that time, 23 attended the meeting and thus an organization was formed. This has now acquired its present stature with more than 15000 members on its roll (2020).
Now, Delhi Medical Association is the highest and biggest platform of doctors of modern medicine involved in the mass scale vaccination, health checkup camps, measles and Pulse Polio Programmes, Blood donation camps, Anti Quackery movement, Conference, Covid-19 Vaccination. Today DMA has totally decentralized all its activities to all its thirteen branches spread all over Delhi and is now fully devoted to work on health policies and other issues of Delhi Govt., National & International health agencies and health associations. DMA has its own office in the walled city area.
Pinnacle of glory for our association was Grand Centenary Celebrations of DMA at prestigious Vigyan Bhawan in August 2014 in the presence of Galaxy of Medical Luminaries alongwith Distinguished Union Ministers such as Hon’ble Late Sh. Arun Jaitely, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Dr. Jitendra Singh and Dr. Mahesh Sharma and other prominent dignitaries. Various medical luminaries had served the country national and internationally at various platforms like Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Dr. A.K. Walia, Dr. J.K Jain, Dr. S.C.L. Gupta, Dr. Kanwar Sain, Dr. V.K.
